The City of East Ridge Building and Codes Division is currently accepting applications for a full-time Residential Building and Codes Inspector. Qualified applicants should be able to perform all activities related to ensuring compliance with residential building standards including plans review, inspections, and enforcement of City of East Ridge codes and ordinances. This person ensures conformance with zoning and land use requirements, property maintenance of both commercial and residential, maintains appropriate records and files; prepares reports. This person answers inquiries from the public regarding construction and land use, meets with property owners .Additionally, they inspect existing dwellings for compliance with building codes and ordinances. And lastly appear and testify at legal proceedings as needed to enforce condemnation and demolition ordinances.
Qualifications: High school diploma, GED, or any equivalent, five (5) years full time construction work with responsibilities as foreman, inspection, superintendent, or related background; or combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Ability to read plans and perform plans review or equivalent, knowledge of residential building construction, mechanical and plumbing preferred.
Requirements: Must possess four (4) certifications from the International Code Council as a residential building inspector, residential plumbing inspector, residential mechanical inspector, and Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment and maintain certifications throughout employment, as required by State of Tennessee Fire Marshal’s Office.
