The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s beach volleyball team achieved a milestone on Apr. 3, sweeping Ottawa (Kan.) 5-0 to open the EKU Sand Fest and giving Head Coach Darin Van Horn his 100th career win. The victory also marks the program’s 100th overall win, with Van Horn having led the team throughout its six-year history.
This achievement is significant for both Van Horn and the Sandy Mocs, reflecting consistent success since the program’s inception. The team also tied its record for most consecutive wins in a season, now standing at eleven.
Chattanooga dominated Ottawa in their first-ever meeting, winning all five matches decisively. Of the ten sets played during the match, eight were decided by double-digit margins. The Sandy Mocs improved their season record to 11-3 while Ottawa remains winless at 0-17.
Reflecting on his milestone victory, Van Horn said: “The 100 wins are nice, but I think it’s a testimony to what this group and this program have built together. Without the buy-in and desire to build a winning culture and togetherness, we wouldn’t have accomplished that. It just makes me proud of all the work that was put into this program, even the players and staff early on who didn’t get to experience where we are today. Thankful for the team, administrators, and all support staff around us! It takes a community working together.”
Chattanooga will continue competition at EKU Sand Fest with upcoming matches against Liberty and Eastern Kentucky.
