Junior Lesley Green earned her second All-Conference of the weekend on Sunday at the 2023 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Rookies Delaney Mulick and Maddie Wheatcroft were named All-Freshman.

Green finished third in the women's 5,000 meter with her second PR of the weekend, finishing with a time of 16:47.30.

"With a mile to go, Lesley put on a surge and was able to hold it for a third place finish," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "Lesley and Emma [Russum] ran exceptionally well for coming off a 3K yesterday. Emma built momentum and just picked off those dying from the fast pace up front.

"They both had huge PRs. I could not be happier with their efforts and 8k of total racing this weekend."

Russum scored for the Mocs with an eighth place finish in the 5K, running a PR time of 17:27.47. Freshman Michaela Dabney ran her season best time in the long distance race.

In the Mile final, freshman Maddie Wheatcroft finished sixth overall. She took more than seven seconds off her qualifying time on Saturday, posting a personal-best time of 4:57.30. She was the third freshman across the line and was named to the All-Freshman Team.

"Maddie hung on the back of the lead group which had separation almost from the gun," Meyer said. "Maddie hung on to improve over her qualifying time by several seconds.

"The fast pace wore on Faith [Brown] and Leah [Boyd]," Meyer said. The pair ran an impressive DMR the previous night and "had respectable finishes for their first Mile start."

Also earning a spot on the team was freshman Delaney Mulick in the 800 meter run. She just missed her season-best finishing with a time of 2:26.79.

Finishing out the championships for Chattanooga was the 4x400 meter relay. Sarah Unterholzner was the lead off for the Mocs followed by Faith Brown, Jessika Rennich and anchored by Maddie Wheatcroft.

"The team had a seven second improvement for a season best," Meyer said. "Overall they had a very strong weekend. Coach Michael Gadson and Coach Ty Griffin, as usual, had the kids prepared and ready. Across the board, they ran to the very best of their abilities. We made substantial improvement over last year and now have set ourselves up for a very strong outdoor season."

Chattanooga finished eighth overall with 20 points ahead of UNCG and just behind VMI. Samford's men and women repeated as league champions. It was the eighth straight for Samford's women and fourth consecutive for the men.

The Mocs open the outdoor season March 24 at the Lee Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn.
