After a two-week hiatus, Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball big man Jake Stephens earned his sixth Southern Conference Player of the Week honor of the season following a huge week in league play, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Stephens has now won the award 11 times in his career which is second most in SoCon history, trailing former Davidson standout and current NBA superstar Stephen Curry (16). He joins Curry as the only two in league history to win the award six or more times in a season.

The Bunker Hill, W.Va., native averaged 27.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last week to help Chattanooga to a 1-1 mark in SoCon play. He finished the week shooting 53.1% (17-of-32) from the floor, 50.0% (6-of-12) from three and 82.4% (14-of-17) from the free-throw line.

Against his former team VMI on Saturday, Stephens turned in a dominating performance, scoring 37 points (11-18 FG, 5-6 3PT FG, 10-13 FT) and hauling in 15 rebounds to lift the Mocs to an 85-78 victory in the Roundhouse. The 37 points were the most scored by a Moc since 2013 and the most against a DI opponent since 2011.

The effort against the Keydets followed up another double-double performance at UNCG last Wednesday. Stephens turned in 17 points and 13 rebounds while dishing out seven assists to nearly notch the lucrative triple-double.

For the season, Stephens ranks among the best in NCAA Division I basketball as he currently sits third in double-doubles (10), fourth in total points (363) and rebounds (179), ninth in rebounds per game (10.5), 10th in points per game (21.4) and total blocks (41).

The 7'0 center surpassed 900 career rebounds in Saturday's win over VMI and currently ranks 15th among active career leaders with 909. His 1,779 career points ranks 28th on that same list.
