Old foes, new opponents and a return to the past highlight the Chattanooga women's basketball schedule this season. First-year head coach Shawn Poppie announced the 15-game non-conference slate Wednesday that includes six home contests.
The Mocs host Young Harris and King this season for the first time, while taking on familiar adversaries Belmont, Austin Peay and Tennessee. A return to the schedule is Chattanooga's former SoCon antagonist, Marshall in late December.
It begins with Division II foe Young Harris at the Roundhouse on November 7. UTC heads to Belmont on Nov. 9 before returning home for back-to-back matchups against in-state foes Austin Peay (Nov. 12) and Tennessee State (Nov. 16).
The squad heads out of state to take on Murray State (Nov. 19) before returning home to host Kennesaw State (Nov. 21). Then it's back on the road crossing into North Carolina for a game at UNC Asheville (Nov. 23).
After a short holiday break, the Mocs welcome King on Nov. 26. It's the last at home before a 5-game stretch that begins at Georgia State (Nov. 30). December opens up with SEC matchups at Alabama (Dec. 3) and up the road to Tennessee on Dec. 6.
Following the completion of fall semester exams, Chattanooga travels to North Alabama on Dec. 15, Ohio on Dec. 18 and then over to Marshall on Dec. 21. The last time UTC and the Thundering Herd faced off was in 1997 under Craig Parrott. The Mocs won the contest 63-60 at Maclellan Gym.
Chattanooga comes home after the holiday break to host Jacksonville State on Dec. 29, wrapping up non-conference play. The Southern Conference schedule, previously released, begins Jan. 5 at ETSU.
