Chattanooga Mocs senior pitcher Long recorded her 500th career strikeout during a 3-2 victory over UNCG on Apr. 26 at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
The achievement came as part of a complete-game performance, where Long struck out seven batters and allowed only four hits and two earned runs. Her second strikeout of the game marked the milestone, while her seventh secured the final out for Chattanooga.
The Mocs opened scoring in the third inning after capitalizing on an error at third base. Although UNCG responded with two runs in their half of the frame, Chattanooga tied it up in the fifth with a solo home run to center field. The go-ahead run was delivered in the sixth inning by a single up the middle, securing a lead that held through tense moments in the bottom of the seventh.
Chattanooga’s offense tallied seven hits and three stolen bases during the contest. The team snapped a six-game losing streak with this win and handed UNCG just its fourth conference loss of the season.
Looking ahead, Chattanooga will host Furman next weekend for their final regular season series, including Mental Health Awareness Day on Saturday and Senior Day on Sunday when nine seniors will be recognized. The team is also set to host the Southern Conference Softball Championship from May 6-9 at Frost Stadium.
