FOIA Request to The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Our request seeks detailed information concerning the university’s current Chinese National students and related policies.

Specifically, we are requesting documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where specific student names are protected, we have asked for aggregated data reflecting the total number of such students by department.

Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount each student receives and the source of these scholarships. Furthermore, we have requested details on any recipients affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Our inquiry also extends to university policies or procedures that outline how intellectual property and other confidential information are safeguarded, particularly concerning Chinese National students.

This request is made on behalf of Hamilton Reporter and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to informing the public and ensuring governmental transparency, access to these records is vital for our work. We believe this qualifies us for a fee waiver under applicable laws.
