FOIA Request to Miller-Motte College-Chattanooga Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at the Hamilton Reporter have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Miller-Motte College-Chattanooga. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If privacy laws protect individual student names, we have requested aggregated data indicating the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.
Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes details about each scholarship’s amount and its source. Furthermore, we are interested in identifying any recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Our inquiry also extends to understanding how the university safeguards its intellectual property and confidential information concerning these students. We have requested any relevant policies or procedures that outline these protective measures.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing public access to government actions through transparency laws. As media professionals, our role is crucial in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring that information reaches the public domain effectively. We believe this qualifies us for a fee waiver associated with processing this request.
We await a response from Miller-Motte College-Chattanooga and remain committed to providing comprehensive coverage on this matter as it unfolds.
