The Chattanooga Women’s Basketball team announced on Apr. 27 the addition of Gabbie Grooms, a guard from Georgia State, as its third player acquired during this transfer portal cycle.

The move is significant for the Mocs as they look to strengthen their roster for the 2026-27 season. Grooms, who stands at 5-foot-8 and hails from Peachtree City, Georgia, will join Chattanooga as a rising junior.

“Gabbie is an elite playmaker and scorer. She is a perfect fit for our team with her hard work ethic and high basketball IQ. We are very excited to add another local talent to our roster, and I know the fans will definitely enjoy watching her play,” said Head Coach.

During her most recent season at Georgia State, Grooms played in all 31 games and started in 21 of them. She averaged 5.3 points per game and collected an average of 2.7 rebounds per game. Her standout performance was a career-high 17 points against Old Dominion, while she also grabbed six rebounds in three different games during the season.

Before joining Georgia State, Grooms began her collegiate career at Georgia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference where she appeared in 11 games as a freshman and scored a total of 23 points. While there, she was part of a squad that finished with a record of 22-11 and achieved national ranking as high as No.13.

Grooms had an accomplished high school career at Trinity Christian under her mother’s coaching guidance—earning honors such as the Class AAAA All-State Player of the Year in her senior year, three Atlanta Journal Constitution Player of the Year awards, two GBCAA All-Star selections, over 2,000 career points scored and more than 700 rebounds recorded.

Her parents are Lady and Windell Grooms; Lady played professionally in the Women’s National Basketball Association for eight seasons after being selected in the first round of its inaugural draft.
