Chattanooga lost both games against Southern Conference leader UNC Greensboro on April 25, with the Spartans winning the first game 7-3 and taking the second game 9-1 in five innings.

The doubleheader was played at UNCG Softball Stadium in Greensboro. Chattanooga’s offense was limited for much of the day, as UNC Greensboro held a no-hitter into the sixth inning of game one before a pinch hitter broke it up with a single that drove in Chattanooga’s first run. The Mocs added two more runs in the seventh inning but could not overcome UNCG’s lead.

In the second game, Chattanooga managed one run after a single and fielding error put a runner in scoring position. However, UNC Greensboro scored three runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth to end the contest early by run rule. The Mocs’ defense kept things close early by escaping a bases-loaded jam without allowing any runs in the first inning, including recording an out at home plate and finishing with an unassisted force at third base.

Pitcher Long threw three innings for Chattanooga and struck out three batters during her appearance. With these results, Chattanooga’s record stands at 18 wins, 27 losses, and one tie overall (6-11 SoCon), while UNC Greensboro improved to 37 wins and 15 losses (15-2 SoCon).

The teams are scheduled to play again Sunday to conclude their series. The final matchup is set for a 2:00 p.m. start with live coverage available through GoMocs.com.
