The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team lost a close match against No. 72 Furman, falling 4-3 on April 3 at the Mickel Tennis Complex in Greenville, South Carolina.

This result keeps Chattanooga at a record of 14-4 overall and 3-2 in Southern Conference play, while Furman improves to the same overall record but remains undefeated at 5-0 in league action. The win marks Furman’s sixth consecutive victory and extends their winning streak over Chattanooga to fourteen matches spanning more than ten years.

Furman secured the doubles point by winning all three matches, with Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren taking the top spot with a score of 6-2. In singles play, Macy Hitchcock extended Furman’s lead before Chattanooga responded with a win at No. 5 singles. Murphy added another point for Furman at No.1 singles, but victories by Pedretti and Magarira for Chattanooga kept the contest tight until Lily Doherty clinched the match for Furman at No.6 singles.

The last time Chattanooga won on the road against Furman was in 1997, with their most recent overall victory coming in March of 2015.

Chattanooga will next host Mercer on Wednesday, April 8 for its home finale scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., according to information from GoMocs.com.
