The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team defeated Mercer 6-1 on April 8, closing out their home matches for the spring season at the UTC Tennis Center.

This win is significant as it improves Chattanooga’s overall record to 15-4 and their Southern Conference record to 4-2. The victory also ends a four-match losing streak against Mercer in the all-time series, bringing UTC’s home record against Mercer to nine wins and one loss.

In doubles play, Chattanooga started strong with a commanding win on court No. 3 before Mercer answered back on court No. 2. The deciding doubles point came down to the top court, where UTC secured a hard-fought victory for an early lead. In singles action, after Mercer tied the match with a win at No. 3 singles, Chattanooga responded with straight-set victories from Magarira at No. 2 and another player at No. 1 to take control of the match. Pedretti clinched the overall team win with her performance at No. 4 singles.

Additional singles wins came from players on courts five and six, rounding out Chattanooga’s strong showing for the day.

Looking ahead, Chattanooga will finish regular season play this Saturday (April 11) in an away match against Samford in Birmingham, Alabama.
