The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to nine matches with a 5-2 victory over the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) in their Southern Conference opener on March 15. The match took place at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, North Carolina.

This win brings Chattanooga’s season record to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while UNCG falls to 1-12 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Mocs’ current nine-match win streak surpasses last year’s eight-match run and ties their best start to a season since beginning 11-1 in 2023.

“It took all we had today,” said head coach following the match. “This team needs all nine women locked in and that’s exactly what we did today.”

In doubles play, UNCG started strong with a win on court No. 2, but Chattanooga responded by taking victories at No. 3 and clinching the decisive point at No. 1 after a tiebreaker. In singles competition, Magarira secured an early win for Chattanooga at No. 1, followed by Pedretti’s straight-set victory at No. 3. Although UNCG earned points at positions five and six, Chattanooga sealed the match with wins from other players, including a three-set comeback on court four and a final hard-fought victory on court two.

The match lasted three hours and twenty-four minutes with an attendance of twenty-one spectators. The order of finish for singles was courts one, three, five, six, four, then two; for doubles it was courts two, three, then one.

Looking ahead, Chattanooga will travel to North Alabama for a non-conference contest scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 in Florence, Alabama.
