The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team remained in second place after the first 36 holes of the Southern Conference Championships at Columbia Country Club, according to an April 21 update. The team posted a score of 311 on a challenging day, trailing Furman by ten shots and leading third-place UNCG by eight.
This performance keeps Chattanooga in contention as the tournament enters its final round. The event is significant for the program, which has a history of strong finishes in the Southern Conference Championships.
Coach Katie Woodruff commented on her team’s effort: “It was a grind today. I don’t feel like the putts were falling and when that happens, it makes the other parts of the game that much harder. We have 18 holes to go and in golf, anything can happen.” Three Chattanooga golfers are currently positioned within the top ten individually.
The Mocs’ lineup saw Pauliukonyte lead for only the second time this season, surpassing the field average by more than five strokes. The team recorded seven birdies during their round, with four coming over their final three holes. Cooper finished one under par on par-4s while Bugg tied for best par-5 score at three under.
Historically, Chattanooga has claimed five championships and seven runner-up finishes across seventeen previous appearances at this event. Their last occurrence with four players finishing in the top fifteen came in 2018.
As play heads into its final day, all four Mocs remain inside the top fifteen individual standings—a mark not reached since 2018—giving them an opportunity to contend for another high finish.
