The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team lost to nationally ranked No. 60 East Tennessee State University (ETSU) on April 2, with a final score of 7-0 at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex in Johnson City, Tennessee.

This match was significant as it pitted Chattanooga against one of the Southern Conference’s top teams. ETSU has remained undefeated in league play and extended its winning streak to 17 matches, which is currently the second longest active streak in Division I tennis.

Chattanooga now holds a record of nine wins and eleven losses overall, with three wins and three losses within conference play. ETSU improved its season record to seventeen wins and three losses while maintaining a perfect five-win mark in the Southern Conference. The Buccaneers have not lost a home conference match since rejoining the league in 2015, with Chattanooga being one of only two programs—alongside Furman—to defeat them during that span.

In doubles competition, ETSU swept all three matches. Peter Kalocsai and Arenui Luethi won their match at No. 2 doubles by a score of 6-1 before Oscar Martinez and Martin Vergara clinched the team point at No. 1 with a score of 6-3. James Sim and Juan Listo completed the sweep on court No. 3 with a win of 6-4.

ETSU continued its strong performance into singles play, securing victories across all six courts. Carlos Gonzales started singles action with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-0), followed by Kalocsai’s victory at No.3 (6-3, 6-0). Vergara clinched the overall match for ETSU on court No.2 against Franzmann (6-3, 6-1). Additional points came from Luethi over Kincses (No.5), Cowcher over Grove (No.4), and Martinez concluded proceedings with a dramatic three-set win over Jupa at No.1.

Looking ahead, Chattanooga will host UNCG on Saturday, April 11 for Senior Day during their regular season finale at UTC Tennis Center.
