The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team advanced to the semifinal round of the 2026 UTR Sports NIT Championship after a 4-1 victory against North Carolina Central on May 6 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
This win allows Chattanooga, seeded fourth, to reach the semifinals for the second consecutive season. The team will face top-seeded Virginia Tech on May 7. North Carolina Central ended its season with a record of 13-7 following this loss.
The quarterfinal match began with North Carolina Central taking an early lead by winning two out of three doubles matches. However, Chattanooga responded strongly in singles play by securing four straight-set victories. The first singles point came from a win at No. 5, followed by another at No. 6 that put Chattanooga ahead. The reigning NIT Most Valuable Player extended their lead further at No. 4 singles before Chattanooga clinched the overall victory with a win at No. 1 singles.
The tournament is being held from May 5 to May 8 and features five NCAA Division I programs competing in single-elimination rounds including quarterfinals, semifinals, and a championship match scheduled for May 8.
