The Chattanooga Beach Volleyball team began its 2026 season with two close defeats at the Wheeler Beach Bash in Columbia, South Carolina. The Mocs, who were ranked first in the preseason Ohio Valley Conference poll, lost both matches on Friday by a score of 3-2.

In their morning match against Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga dropped to 0-4 all-time against the Chanticleers. The contest was their closest yet, ending 3-2. The Mocs’ pairings earned victories in the No. 1 and No. 4 positions but were unable to secure a third win to clinch the match.

The afternoon saw Chattanooga face Texas A&M – Corpus Christi for the first time in program history. After tying and then taking a brief lead, the Mocs ultimately fell as the deciding match went to three sets before being claimed by the Islanders.

Chattanooga will continue its participation at the Wheeler Beach Bash on Saturday, facing host South Carolina at 1 p.m., followed by Austin Peay at 3 p.m.

“Friday marked the first meeting between the Mocs and the Islanders, as UTC drops to 0-1 all-time in the series between two programs.”
