Baileigh Pitts was named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week for games played from March 30 to April 5, according to an announcement by the league office on April 6.
Pitts, a senior from Riggold, Georgia, had a strong performance during the week. She recorded eight hits in thirteen at-bats for a .615 batting average, drew three walks, and posted a slugging percentage of .923 along with an on-base percentage of .647. Her contributions included one double, one home run, six runs batted in (RBI), and one stolen base.
In Chattanooga’s extra-inning win over Georgia State, Pitts went two-for-four with three RBI. During the game’s final innings, she hit a sacrifice fly with bases loaded to start a five-run comeback and later delivered a two-run home run to tie the score. In extra innings, she secured victory with a walk-off double that scored two runs.
Pitts also contributed in other games throughout the week. Against Mercer in an 8-0 win shortened to five innings, she had two hits including an RBI single and a home run. In another contest—a ten-inning win—she went two-for-four with one walk and scored once. In her final game of the weekend series, Pitts was perfect at bat with two hits and drew two walks while driving in another run.
For the season so far, Pitts leads Chattanooga with a .382 batting average along with four home runs, eight doubles, one triple and twenty-three RBI. She has maintained a slugging percentage of .582 while drawing twenty walks and is perfect on stolen base attempts this year.
The Mocs are scheduled to host East Tennessee State this weekend for a three-game series beginning Saturday.
